Fives provides technologies to process automotive exposed panels in horizontal furnaces with its range Stein Digiflex® furnaces for automotive products, for aluminium based alloyed coatings and for building products and appliances.

  • Stein Digiflex® furnace uses high efficiency jet preheating for saving energy.
  • Rapid cooling with the Flash Cooling® range: a strategic process facilitating the heat treatment of new high-strength steels such as DP, TRIP, TWIP multiphase steels, isotropic steel, ...
  • ON/OFF heating with the AdvanTek® burners range: lower atmosphere gas consumption, easy operation, high versatility and flexibility
  • Induction heating, with different applications : boosting, specific heat cycles for some steel grades (DDQ AlK, DP, TRIP, ...),

Focus

Fives is a pioneer in the field of combined galvanizing-painting lines. High versatility and flexibility with 100% painted product, multiple color changes within the same coil and steady operation in the process section:

The advanced process technologies developed by Fives enable high speed and high yield operations

Cooling solutions:

  • The Flash Cooling® range allows ultra high cooling rates for new high strength steel grades. Up to 200°/sec with dry process and up to 1000°/sec with wet process for 1 mm thickness.
  • The Aeris® after-pot cooling technology combines high cooling performances and strip stabilization.

Heating solutions:

  • The AdvanTek® range for horizontal furnaces, pulse firing technology for energy saving and flexibility of operation On-off control process of heating section combines higher combustion efficiency with maximum flexibility of operation.
  • Vertical digital furnaces with pulse-controlled push-pull AdvanTek® WRT radiant tubes.
  • Specific strategies for transitions implemented by the Virtuo™ furnace optimization system.

Baosteel, the Chinese steelmaker faithful to Fives

In November 2009, Baosteel Co., Ltd, the world 3rd largest steel producer with an annual production capacity of more than 38 Mt, behind ArcelorMittal and Hebei Iron&Steel Group (born from the recent merger of Tangshan and Handan), launched its 2nd investment phase.

Baosteel renewed its confidence in Fives Stein for the supply of two Grain oriented silicon steel furnaces including one DCL (decarburizing and coating line) and one FCL (final coating line). These two contracts bring the number of contracts awarded to Fives by Baosteel to ten in five years. These furnaces will treat grain oriented silicon steel (also called electrical steel) mainly used in transformers.

A new contract in 2013!

Fives, was awarded a major contract to design and supply a Continuous Annealing Line vertical furnace for Baosteel's Zhanjiang project. The contract signing ceremony was held in Shanghai on July 31, 2013, in the presence of major stakeholders of this project.

Through this contract, Fives will supply equipment for the 2030 Cold Rolling Mill, one of the plant's key units, which will mainly produce automotive exposed panels and sheets and other high-end appliances products, with a designed annual production capacity of 2.2 million tons.

  • Commissioning in February 2010, first strip scheduled in June 2010.

CRM1, Annealing line (CAL 2030)

  • Furnace production capacity: Nearly 900,000 tpy
  • Strip thickness: 0.5 to 2 mm
  • Strip width: 900 to 1,630 mm
  • Featuring the patented Flash Cooling® system with high H2 content.
  • The first hot strip was successfully produced by the CAL 2030 on December 15th, 2009.

Meishan, Tin Plate annealing line

  • Furnace production capacity: 420,000 tpy
  • Strip thickness: 0.18 to 0.55 mm
  • Strip width: 700 to 1,080 mm
  • In production since August 2009

CRM5, Annealing line for the automotive market

  • Furnace production capacity: 730,000 tpy
  • Strip thickness: 0.3 to 2.3 mm
  • Strip width: 700 to 1,630 mm
  • Featuring the Flash Cooling® system with high H2 content
  • In production since May 2008
