Bronx rail straighteners
For rail applications, straighteners are required to straighten the steel product both horizontally and vertically. Bronx rail straighteners therefore comprise a horizontal-axis straightening machine and a vertical-axis straightening machine, together with all necessary electrical and hydraulic equipment. The installation can process rails of 52m long at a rate of 60 pcs/hour, and rails of 104m long at 30 pcs/hour.
Bronx rail straighteners: technical features
Horizontal straightening machine:
- 9 staggered rollers with center of 1600mm
Vertical straightening machine:
- 8 staggered rolls pitched at 900 mm between centers
- Vertical guide rolls positioned at the inlet and outlet sides of the machine
- Vertically adjustable to match the roll heights. The four corners of the installation are simply raised and lowered using guidance system-controlled heavy-duty jacks.
Designed to customer specifications from the very start
All Fives’ straightening machines are designed and supplied in accordance with customer requirements. In fact, Fives together with the Russian holding company EVRAZ developed the first rail straightening machines to fulfil orders for the group’s Nizhny Tagil Metallurgical plant (NTMK) in the Sverdlovsk region and its Novokuznetsk Iron and Steel Plant (NKMK) in Kemerovo region, both in Russia. Each machine had a capacity of 1 million tons of rails per year. The two companies worked together to design this new technology to be capable of straightening in two directions - horizontal and vertical, utilizing Fives’ equipment know-how and the customer’s specialism in rail and beam processing. The Bronx straightener for the NKMK plant was designated to straighten high-speed railway road rails.
