Pickling systems for HAPL

The hot annealing and pickling lines typically consist of a combination of treatments, starting with sulfuric acid and usually moving onto a second step of nitric and hydrofluoric acid. These treatments are customized according to the preprocessing undertaken prior to the arrival of the strip at the pickling line. Preprocessing steps that can affect pickling include scale composition and thickness, shot blasting, coiling temperature and furnace conditions.
State-of-the-art strip pickling systems
For the NeoKoil® hot annealing and pickling lines, Fives has designed the state-of-the-art strip pickling systems. Whatever the end use, Fives strip pickling systems ensure the proper surface treatment of stainless steels. Autonomous control guarantees reliable and repeatable processing that is safe and efficient. Every line is designed with:
- Automatic acid monitoring and dosing control
- High volume sludge removal and filtration
- Acid purification and/or regeneration
- Minimum waste generation

Strip pickling systems: additional benefits
Fives’ cost-effective and low-waste strip pickling systems for HAPL are designed with automatic acid monitoring and dosage control. Benefits include:
- Easy maintenance
- Low wear and tear
- Long equipment life
- Highly cost-efficient
- Energy efficient
- Low waste
Energy efficiency
Fives’ strip pickling systems are designed to reduce the amount of chemicals used. This minimizes the load on the waste water treatment, while also being highly energy efficient. In addition, other waste streams are also treated using advanced methods to provide best available technology emission levels.
The strip pickling system comrpises:
- Chemical treatment
- Mechanical brushing
- Rinsing
- Steering unit, if required
- Dryer units
