Fives' rapid cooling section offers a flexible and compact way to perfectly cool the strip. The compact design has a number of benefits, including the better cooling rate control and the significant energy savings. Protective atmosphere gas (HNx) is blown onto the strip through an array of blowing nozzles, ensuring uniform strip cooling without the need for an equalizing section. Cooling adjustment is ensured by variable voltage variable frequency (VVVF) motor control, while the insulating fiber lining is covered with stainless steel sheets for strip protection. More than 250 rapid cooling sections from Fives have been sold worldwide.
Rapid jet cooling
Fives has recently developed rapid jet cooling, which provides a high cooling rate of up to 75˚C/sec for processing high strength steel.
Rapid jet coolers blow protective atmosphere gas through an optimized array of blowing nozzles.
The external design remains unchanged, compact and standard, but one rapid jet cooler is equivalent to two or three standard jet coolers.
The specific jet rapid cooling design was developed by Fives with an external exchanger and fans for high cooling rate, as well as for aluminum-based coating, which works at higher temperatures of 600 – 680˚C to avoid evaporated dust from the coating bath clogging the heat exchanger. This section is also equipped with a heater to maintain the proper strip temperature.
