Eco-design reheating furnace for India’s Bokaro Steel Plant
Fives commissioned its first eco-design reheating furnace featuring unique fuel flexibility and a drastic reduction of NOx emissions at Bokaro Steel Plant, a part of India’s state-owned Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL).
The Digit@l Furnace® AT 2.0 has replaced an out-dated pushing furnace and has been installed into the hot strip mill without production interruption. The furnace is fully equipped with AdvanTek® CWF burners (Central Wide Flame burners), Level 2 control system and Virtuo® Edge-R thermal solution. This achieves a high level of homogeneity and unique fuel flexibility allowing the use of available gas mixtures in the most effective way. The reheating furnace is also able to drastically reduce NOx emissions by more than 60% (proven by continuous measurements).
Main characteristics of the new furnace Digit@l Furnace® AT 2.0:
- Products: low and medium carbon steel and low alloy steel slabs
- Output: 300 t/h
- Discharging temperature: 1,250°C max
- Combustion fuel: mixed gas
The new furnace was put in operation in June 2017 with a large portion of equipment being localized in India under the supervision of Fives’ subsidiary in India.
