Fives' technical seminar to consider steelmakers’ challenges
Fives and France’s INSA Lyon (National Institute of Applied Sciences) invited steel producers on September 10-11, 2018 to Lyon discuss steelmakers' challenges and applications of data science techniques to the steel industry.
The experts from Fives and INSA professors conducted several presentations and round tables covering key topics on steel metal properties, modelling needs, new steel grade requirements, surface and coating problematics, smart line development, and applications of data science techniques to the steel industry. Different customers, including automotive steel makers participated at the two-day seminar at the international engineering school in Lyon.
Fives' specialists on smart data visualization and artificial intelligence highlighted the practucal use of predictive analytics in detecting rare events for the steel industry.
Overcapacity issue forces steel manufacturers to adjust their production techniques and business models to the new market environment. The engineering companies are deeply involved in those adjustment and digitalization processes to support their clients along the journey to diversify and add value to their steel products.
The regular exchange with research institutes and steel producers enables Fives to strengthen its position in research and development, reinforce long-term partnerships and enhance its offer for customers’ satisfaction.
