Stein Digiflex® for the new VAMA plant in China

VAMA, start of production

Fives announces the successful start-up of China's Valin ArcelorMittal Automotive Co. (VAMA) project of the continuous galvanizing and annealing lines equipped with Fives furnaces.

The new greenfield cold-rolling mill complex has an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tons of steel strip and includes a continuous automotive hot dip galvanizing line (CGL) and a continuous mixed annealing and aluminizing line (CAL). Both lines are equipped with Fives’ vertical annealing furnaces - Stein Digiflex®.

For this project, Fives engineered and supplied the complete furnace and related automation systems, including key process technologies, which were imported from Europe, with all local manufacturing and supplies coming from the group’s subsidiary in China. Stein Digiflex® technology was selected thanks to its superior performance in high efficiency digital heating sections and the outstanding cooling performance of the patented FlashCooling® system.

VAMA’s new advanced automotive steel plant was inaugurated just a month earlier. The ceremony was attended by many VIP guests, including the Chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal, Lakshmi Mittal; VAMA CEO, Sanjay Sharma, and Benoît Caratgé, Fives’ Head of Steel and Glass Division.

The two-year construction project, involving more than 2,000 workers and achieving more than six million safe work hours, will initially provide more than 600 high-skilled jobs.
