Stein reheating furnace with a smart combustion system for high quality production
SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp. (SteelAsia), one the world’s largest rebar manufacturing companies, again contracted Fives to supply a new reheating furnace for its Compostela plant in the Philippines.
The new walking beam furnace - Stein Reheating WBF – will have a capacity of producing 140 tons of rebars per hour. Rebars are widely used in the infrastructure markets of the Southeast Asia, especially in the Philippines.
The novelty in the order is a smart combustion system "HOT" which will allow production of higher quality rebars. The combustion system automatically follows requirements of the production process to optimize furnace temperature set-points based on the calculation of product temperature, waste gas temperature and productivity. The result is reduced energy consumption, NOx emissions and less scale.
The scope of work also includes engineering, equipment design and supply, as well as erection supervision. The erection work is scheduled to start in September 2019 with the first hot rebar to be produced in early 2020.
This is the third order from SteelAsia to Fives in the last 4 years. The first contract covered the supply of a 75 tons per hour pusher furnace for its Meycauayan Works in the Philippines in 2016. The second order in 2017 included the design, manufacture, supply and on-site supervision of a 100 tons per hour walking beam furnace, Stein Reheating WBF, to produce rebar and section steel products for its Batangas site. Both contracts have been successfully implemented by Fives’ subsidiary in China to the full satisfaction of the client.
