The largest-ever commissioned WRAP lines
Taiyuan Iron and Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. (TISCO), one of the world’s largest stainless steel producers, and Fives, a global industrial engineering group, commissioned two white rolling, annealing and pickling lines (WRAP) in Taiyuan, North China's Shanxi province.
WRAP is a tandem rolling of N°1 strip, followed by annealing and pickling to produce final cold-rolled, annealed, skin passed and trimmed strip in one line. Fives has been specializing in design and supply of strip process lines and cold rolling mills worldwide since the 1950s, having its design office and manufacturing plant in Seclin, France.
The WRAP lines installed at TISCO have the highest output ever designed in the world: they are twin lines with 600,000 tons annual capacity and 650 meters length each. One of the lines is dedicated to austenitic grades, while the other is for ferritic grades. Each line is equipped with an entry section for white coils, in-line rolling (5 stands tandem mills), annealing & pickling, a skin-pass mill & tension leveling, side trimming and an exit section for 2D/2B coils. The WRAP line also includes five loopers (2 normal and 3 twin loopers). Each twin looper has a bridle roll fitted inside to adjust the tension along strip path to ensure stabilized process during transitions phases, which is currently the most innovative technology for stainless lines in the world.
Fives has been a long-standing partner for TISCO, a company that produces different types of steel for the domestic market (duplex, heat resistance, axle, 9%Ni, etc.), for almost 20 years by supporting its development towards production efficiency, improved performance and environmental sustainability.
